Did the 2 dogs fight often or do you think something happened to cause them to fight?
In any event -- I'm SO very sorry to hear about Scamp! Hope the kids do ok with this loss as well! And the picture with Amber made me smile --not just because it was of her, but of how little Alexa was too! :)
BTW -- I still have the picture of your 3 kids during what ended up being Amber's last Christmas on my fridge -- love that pic!!
I'm so sorry about your little doggy. Still being in mourning over the loss of my dachsund a year ago and my Izzy-cat three months ago, I can empathize. (And the picture of Amber...my stars, I thought that was a pic of YOU as a teenager!) I'm not convinced animals don't go to heaven. After all the care God took to create them and to give them to us as companions, why wouldn't they go someplace special when they're gone? I like to imagine my Meinie (Dachsund) and Izzy-B curled up together in a spot of sun somewhere.
Maggie was a very jealous dog. She wouldn't let Scamp anywhere near me if she could help it. Poor little guy hid in the basement or under the table a lot after we got her. She never fought with him, she would just crowd him out. Although she must have snarled at him or something when we weren't home to make him frightened of her. I would hold him so that I could pet him without her hateful self messing with him. I wish I knew what happened Friday night to cause her to kill him. And I really wish Thunder would have been in the house because he would have protected Scampers and probably killed Maggie. Not that I would want that to happen, but if I had my druthers....I would keep Scamp.
I am glad you said that, Kim. That makes me feel good. It is sad to think that animals just go to dust, so it is a nice thought to think they are in heaven! It's amazing how the little critters get into your heart.
And, yep, Amber looked a lot like me. I didn't see it until her prom picture and in one particular picture, I said, "oh my, she does look like me". She had blue eyes and a squarer chin and her grandma's nose, but I think the overall was like me. Only she was way cuter!
